The ACT Party promises that if you give
us your party vote and we hold the
balance of power after the election, we'll
create an economy that gives the average
New Zealand wage earner an EXTRA $500
A WEEK - enough to outperform Australia
and bring our children home.
How's that for a bribe? Don't believe we
can deliver? Then click here and see
a pledge card with a difference. A detailed
plan to do just that.
Nearly all of the policies we propose are
regarded as international best practice.
Others will be after we've pioneered them!
Not hard right. Dead right.
These policies will give us the growth we
need, so we can afford things like lifesaving
breast cancer drugs that countries
like Greece can now afford, but we can't.
After fifteen years of gutless governments:
-
The average New Zealand worker is now
$450 a week poorer than the average
Australian worker.
-
If we were a state of Australia, we'd be
the poorest - $100 a week poorer than
Tasmania.
|
-
If we were a state of the USA, we'd be
51st and last - $120 a week poorer than
Mississippi.
Is it any wonder so many Kiwis with get-up-and-go have got up and gone?
One thing's for sure. Unless you stop
voting for politicians who bribe you with
short-term treats at the expense of policies
that enrich you in the long run, you'll keep
getting poorer and poorer.
John Key is not the key.
Roger Douglas is.
National leader John Key can see that
Labour's policies are hurting you. But he
needs Labour's voters to make him prime
minister. So he won't change them.
He's copying Australian PM Kevin
Rudd's strategy of saying 'me too' to the
present government's policies. But can you
spot the difference?
That's right. Rudd said 'me too' to
policies that have made Australia richer.
Key's saying 'me too' to policies that are
making New Zealand poorer!
There's only one way to save New
Zealand. Only one way to bring our children
home.
And that's to make sure the ACT Party
|
gets enough votes to hold the balance of
power and demand that Sir Roger Douglas
gets back his old job of Minister of Finance.
Who would you trust to manage New Zealand's $175 billion economy in a crisis?
-
Michael Cullen – who's squandered the
best global conditions of a generation to
make us poorer than Greece?
-
Bill English – who did nothing much the
last time he was Minister of Finance, and
is proudly promising to do nothing much
again?
-
Sir Roger Douglas – the finance minister
who transformed New Zealand from a
Soviet-style basket case under National
to one of the freest and most admired
economies in the world?
In 1984, Sir Roger Douglas had the guts to
do what was right for this country when it
needed strong leadership.
Well, we need that leadership again. On
the next page is how we'll provide it. Keep reading to find out how you can make it happen
with a party vote for ACT.

Sweet! I want a small one -
Sweet! I want a small one - government that is. But most importantly, I want the money. Bring it on!
Yea wow. A powerful,
Yea wow. A powerful, powerful plan. Rock on - I can't wait for it!
A common sense plan to put
A common sense plan to put NZers first not just favoured interest groups that have the ear of this socialist government & a refreshing change from the Nats timid do nothing plans. Good luck!
Visionary leadership is what
Visionary leadership is what we need to sustain one of the best places in the world to live - and that is what I am seeing.
Following on from reading Richard Prebbles book "I've been thinking" I am much better informed and can see the plan and the values behind the ACT party.
Looking forward to the election debates.
The Three V's VISION
The Three V's
VISION VALUES and VELOCITY
Today I joined the ACT party for the first time. I joined for the following reasons:
Only ACT has painted a clear VISION of a New Zealand I want to be part of
Only ACT has demonstrated and been uncompromising VALUES which will make New Zealand a country we can be proud of
Only ACT has the VELOCITY or speed of movement to make these things happen.
Bring on the elections!!!!

Dear Mr Douglas and Mr
Dear Mr Douglas and Mr Hyde,
I guess i'm not too left and not too right at the moment when it comes to politics. I'm sick of minority parties and the amount of control they have under MMP and the pc correct flipping policies being shoved in our face at the moment. However, i can't see how this offer you're putting forward of an extra $500 per week for every wage earn could work. I see a lot of cost cutting going on and a flat tax system, however - i suspect even though Joe (oh and Jill - let's be pc now) Public has an extra 500 in their pocket this is going to go towards paying for the privatisation of industries including Health and Education. I fear we would be heading for a dangerously expensive society where the rich are truly rich and the poor live out of cardboard boxes - kind of where the US is right now. To me it's all swings and roundabouts - you guys take from one hand and put in another. A real vision for this country is where the country actually acquires other countries assets and makes a lot of money from them - as well as bringing home the export dollars.
Also how do you guys propose to handle interest rates ? I would like to see some relief for current home owners who are already struggling (oh by the way - we're not all landlords).
If you guys get into power i'd like to see the current election spending policy removed from existence.
Cheers
OhariuColin I think we need
OhariuColin
I think we need firstly to establish the value of what you term "minor parties." ACT has the luxury of being able to represent firm views on a limited range of real issues. In fact it is inspired minor party activity that leads to real progress. The two major parties have no such luxury. Modern politics dictates that they follow the consensus views that they receive via opinion polling. Now as bright as the average punter may be-it has been proved on previous occasions (think student loans) that the public can be bought by the promise of short-term personal gain. The buying of votes in this manner is bad for that country over the long term and ultimately very bad for the average New Zealander over the long term.
You mentioning investing in other countries. I applaud that-a great idea! Read the Roger Douglas 20 Point Plan in detail and you will realise that it is a comprehensive recipe to improve our economy to the point where we can in fact begin to once again flex our muscles in the international arena. The two major parties have no plan at all. They will cut the existing wealth of the into smaller and smaller sections and continually redistribute existing resources. This is a sure path to impoverishment. I suggest you get behind the minor party that has the guts to table policy that is about growing the economy not political popularity. ACT is the party with the guts to do just that!
Hi Paul, The cost of any
Hi Paul,
The cost of any kind of Education or Health vouchers would be added on top of the $500/week extra we're aiming to give people, otherwise you're right, it wouldn't really all be 'extra' would it?
But in some ways, you're right... we certainly are giving people back their own money, but we're not planning on having the government take it all back again. The whole point of giving people their tax dollars back, is because we believe people should be spending their own money and that they can make those spending decisions much better than any government can.
Also, it's important to remember that almost a third of all New Zealander's have some form of health insurance already - it's actually surprisingly affordable.
Oh and you can bet that the Electoral Finance Act will be repealed as soon as possible if we get enough votes to make that happen.

Good luck, save New Zealand
Good luck, save New Zealand from Labour.
These look like good
These look like good economic policies. But what I like most is expressed in the Act slogan: "The Guts To Do What's Right." It seems that Act has the backbone to stand up on issues like smacking and free speech, whereas National doesn't. I sincerely hope that enough people will vote for Act so that you can put the pressure on a National government to do the right things.
ACT THE ONLY CHOICE FOR
ACT THE ONLY CHOICE FOR CHANGE IN 2009!!
I think that ACT must be salivating at the news that National won't be making any changes to the Working for Families Tax Credit scheme. Appears that those of us who are sick of Labour dishing out our money and thought things would be different under National will need to vote ACT to bring about any real change. National or Labour - whats the difference? None I say!!
Actually working for
Actually working for families is a bastardised version of Sir Rogers Gaurranteed Minimum Family Income scheme planned in the late 80's. The idea was to ensure that even the lowest wage earner was still better off than they would be if they were on the benefit, thus encouraging people to return to the private sector and grow New Zealands economy.
I find it funny that Helen slams Sir rogers policies then turns around and try's to implement them.
Maybe thats cos it was actually Lange's policies not Douglas's that bought us to our knees.
As per my post below we have to look at the bigger picture... always.
Any doubters of these
Any doubters of these policies should really read Sir Rogers book "unfinished buisness" that outlies the plans and shows how they will work, and how traditional views on what helps the disadvantaged don't in fact work.
The only potentially dangerous thing about these policies is that they are all interdependent, they have to be implemented in full or not at all. This has already happend in government when Sir roger was David Langes finance minister. David lange tried to pick and choose the policies, made a hash of things and Roger douglas ends up looking worse off.
Whilst I am a verdent follower of these policies I fear that due to the nature of politics (read chapter "politics vs. change, from unfinished business) that they will not be fully implemented and the country will suffer.
The people need to take a good long hard look at what actually helps the lower wage earner. Government monopolys certainly do not. One only needs to look to the former soviet union to see how well that works.
Scary thing too Dan is that
Scary thing too Dan is that you mention former Soviet Union as an example of how monopolies are doomed to failure... I wish NZ would now follow the lead of states like Slovakia and Czech Republic who have adopted Flat Tax. Lithuania has it down to 24% and experiences some of the fastest growth in Europe.
Instead our politicians bury their heads in the sand because the 2 major parties like the idea of being able to spend our hard earned cash without too many constraints. That is why ACT has always led the debate for a fair tax system.
Personally I really like
Personally I really like these policies.
I especially like the idea of spending my money where and when I want to.
Even though I lost my job last year, I don’t want to pick up the benefit because it is simply embarrassing.
I worked and payed taxes that pay for other people to budge from people like myself and it is simply stupid that individuals that don’t try to save just swan around spending up large knowing that the government will pick up the bill when times are tough.
I won’t do it!
I would have more of my own money if I hadn’t been paying large taxes for the irresponsible in society.
I feel the same with respect to working for families why should I have to work for other people’s families, I just don’t get it.
I like the principled
I like the principled approach to politics and I'm interested in lower, flatter taxes. Has ACT announced its policy on income tax rates yet? Or will that be kept to later in the campaign?
On Education if all parents get vouchers they all have equal opportunity to choose schools right? But what happens if Mr & Mrs Millionairre donate an extra $10,000 (in addition to vouchers) to the school to help little Johnny get entry ahead of little Amy from the home of Ms Povertystricken - would that be allowed under an ACT government? If not how would it be prevented? I'm sure its been considered but I'd like to know the answer, please.
