Auckland Council must stop coveting neighbours’ assets

BY David Seymour at 28 August, 2015

“It is incredibly arrogant, even by their standards, for Auckland Council to include the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust in its asset review as a ‘potential’ asset,” says Epsom MP David Seymour.

“The trust belongs to those members who have not historically sold out their ownership the asset. It would be manifestly unjust for Auckland Council to expropriate that asset and redistribute it to Aucklanders who did sell out of their respective trusts years ago –

New catchphrase won’t soothe rate pain

BY David Seymour at 30 July, 2015

ACT Leader and Epsom MP David Seymour does not share Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development’s enthusiasm for a revamp of Auckland’s “global brand”.

“Today’s confirmed rate rises of over 40% for some Aucklanders are the result of a council with completely unrealistic ideas about its role,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.

“The purpose of local government should be to provide affordable infrastructure allowing New Zealanders to get on with building, working, and living.

“Unfortunately Auckland Council is determined to rack up debt by role playing as a city state, complete with diplomatic missions and countless unelected, generously-funded authorities

Hobsonville Pt scrap shows Council must stick to its knitting

BY David Seymour at 7 July, 2015

Auckland Council’s scrap over how to develop Hobsonville Point is a perfect reminder of why both ATEED and Auckland Council Property Ltd should be sold, says ACT Leader David Seymour.

“Auckland Council has too many competing objectives. A piece of land that should be developed by the private sector has not one, but two arms of Council scrapping over it.

“On one hand, Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) wants to build a film studio.
